AEO: the new paradigm that's here to stay
Everyone knows SEO—optimization for search engines like Google. But there's a new concept that's starting to change the rules of the game: AEO, or Answer Engine Optimization.
The difference is simple but profound:
- SEO: you optimize your website so it appears in Google's results.
- AEO: you optimize your content so that AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) cites you as the answer when someone asks something related to your hotel or destination.
More and more travelers use AI to plan their trips. "What are the best boutique hotels in Cartagena de Indias?" is no longer just a Google search. It's a question they ask ChatGPT.
Does your hotel show up in that answer? Are you optimizing so that it does?
It's the next big differentiator for hotels' online visibility.
