The hotel
The Domes Jarabacoa is a boutique glamping property in the mountains of Jarabacoa, La Vega province, Dominican Republic. Twelve geodesic domes of six and eight meters in diameter, each with its own heated jacuzzi, kitchen, barbecue area and open views over the valley.
The setting is part of the product: Salto de Jimenoa, Pico Duarte and the rafting rivers are minutes away, and most guests arrive looking for disconnection, not a hotel.
Johan González runs the operation. In a twelve-unit property with a high average rate, every WhatsApp conversation counts: there is no volume to make up for one badly answered inquiry.
The challenge
A typical inquiry at The Domes is not settled with a rate. People ask about the access road, whether they need a 4x4, whether the jacuzzi is private, which dome has the best sunrise view, whether they can arrive after dark, what there is for dinner. These are questions with nuance.
Johan tried several automated solutions for responding on WhatsApp, but they all left the same feeling: distance, confusion, lost opportunities. The bots answered with rigid menus and returned replies that had nothing to do with what had been asked.
The cost was not only the booking that fell through. Every poorly handled conversation started the guest relationship from a cold place, the opposite of what a property like this sells. And the alternative —answering everything by hand— tied Johan to his phone.
The WeSpeak solution
Until WeSpeak came along. The assistant was built on the property's real knowledge base: the twelve domes and how they differ, the access, the policies, the experiences nearby, what each stay includes and what it does not.
The first difference Johan noticed was not speed but register: automated service stopped feeling like a bot. The assistant understands misspelled questions, voice notes and messages that mix three topics at once, and it answers in the tone of the place.
When something falls outside the script —a special request, a group, a blocked date— the conversation reaches a person with the full context instead of starting from scratch.
Results
Late-night and weekend inquiries are answered on their own, which is exactly when people plan a mountain getaway.
Johan got back to focusing on what truly matters: welcoming guests, taking care of them, making every visitor want to come back. WhatsApp stopped being an all-day job.
After trying several tools that did not work, the comparison is the most telling part of the story: the problem was never automating, it was automating without judgment.
I tried several automated solutions and they all sounded robotic: they confused the guest. With WeSpeak it stopped feeling like a bot, and I got back to my job, which is welcoming people.
